I just spent an awesome week in Madera Canyon, Arizona photography hummingbirds at the Santa Rita lodge. Since switching to using Nikon equipment a few weeks ago I have been looking for opportunities to test out one of my new toys, the Nikon 180-400 F4 lens. The hummingbirds were the perfect subjects to try it out on. They move like greased lightening and would give the lens a great workout. Switching between using the D5 and the Z7 with the FTZ attached to the 180-400 I was able to get some of the best photographs that I have taken of the hummingbirds. I didn’t really know how much I would appreciate the built in 1.4 teleconverter. It is so easy to switch from 400 mm to 560 mm without taking your eye away from the viewfinder and the subject. I will be in Alaska next week photography bears and other critters. The 180-400 is definitely coming with me.

Photographed using the Nikon Z7 with FTZ and the Nikon 18-400 F4.
